April 2008 - Finding People Who Want What You Sell

FEATURED COMMENTARY

By Colleen Darwent,
Affiliate Manager

Hi Everyone!

This month we have decided to do something a little different. One of our top affiliates approached us saying that he would like to give back to the affiliate community by writing an article on his specialty, social networks. Ryan Moran is a college student who runs his internet business from his dorm room, (amazing, right?). He runs a review site in which he does a Worldwide Brands Review, as well as sells his own product on SpaceBankers.com.
Ryan writes about how to find targeted customers for your niche, take it away Ryan...

Finding Your Targeted Audience

"Regardless of what you are selling, you cannot stay in business without customers. Some have claimed that the “money is in the list,” while others suggest that search engine rankings are the key. However, the truth is that no matter what strategy you use to find them, you have to find targeted customers for your products.

While some marketers spend large sums to find customers and examine what they are likely to purchase, potential customers reveal their interests while hanging out in hubs on social networks. Members of these networks eagerly reveal their interests and demographics. Savvy marketers can use this information to find out what people are looking for and what they are mostly likely to purchase.

MySpace and Facebook are the most established social networks, and dozens of notable networks pop up every week. Many of these networks are niche targeted, making marketing even easier. Within these social networks, people with similar interests congregate together in groups and in forums. So, if the owner of a baseball apparel store needed a list of fifty thousand Boston Red Sox fans, he or she could find it with a few clicks, and the same applies for any niche. Thousands of groups and forums make it easy to find targeted customers instantly on social networks.

The best way to take advantage of such an opportunity is to begin to build relationships with those who are targeted to your niche. A relationship with a few members of a large group can result in a huge viral effect, because items of value spread like wildfire on social networks. The distribution of PDFs, videos, quizzes, or even discounts on items, can spread quickly, bring new attention to your affiliate links and websites, and it can bring a host of new customers into your reach.

Social networks provide a great way to bring targeted customers, traffic, and attention to your business without spending a dime on advertising. Social network marketing allows you to promote your business, affiliate links, and websites without taking the time that search engine optimization requires. As many marketers continue to pay the increasing costs of PPC advertising, and others spend countless hours optimizing their sites for the search engines, savvy marketers find an endless supply of extremely targeted customers on social networks."

I hope that Ryan's article gives you some ideas of how to decrease your spending on PPC by using the social networks and also how to find targeted customers for your niche.

Marketing Quick Tips
Video Blogging

Video has recently become a huge part of Web 2.0, so why not market your products via video?
According to Wikipedia, video blogging, "sometimes shortened to vlogging, is a form of blogging for which the medium is video. Entries are made regularly and often combine embedded video or a video link with supporting text, images, and other metadata. Video logs (vlogs) also often take advantage of web syndication to allow for the distribution of video over the Internet using either the RSS or Atom syndication formats, for automatic aggregation and playback on mobile devices and personal computers."

I found a great resource for you on how to do video blogging, I hope it is useful to you. Visit FreeVlog and watch their vlogs on the how-to of Video Blogging.
