What are Product Sourcing Methods?

There are five major Product Sourcing Methods (below) that you can use to buy Wholesale Products that you can sell online for REAL profits.

Every truly successful EBiz Owner knows that it's critical to use a combination of Product Sourcing Methods in your business.

What is Drop Shipping?

What is Light Bulk Wholesaling?

What is Large Volume Wholesaling?

What is Liquidation and Overstock?

What is Importing?

What is Drop Shipping?

Drop Shipping is a low cost entry point into buying Wholesale Products and selling them online. It can also be one Product Sourcing Method that you always use in your business, but you never base your entire business on it. The most important thing to learn about Drop Shipping is that it's best used to identify the products that sell well for you, without having to spend a lot of money.

Here's how Drop Shipping works:

1) You find a genuine Wholesale Supplier who is willing to Drop Ship wholesale products that you want to sell, and set up a Retail Account with them.

2) The Drop Shipper sends you
images and descriptions of the products you want to sell, and you place them in your Internet Store or auctions.

3.) A customer finds your Store or Auction, and buys a product that you have priced at, say, $80.

6.) You turn around and email that order to your Drop Shipper, along with the customer’s name and address.

7.) The Drop Shipper sends the product directly to your customer, with YOUR Store’s name on the package.

8.) The Drop Shipper charges you the Wholesale price of, say, $45.00, plus shipping.

9.) Your customer gets a great product from your store shipped to their door, and they tell all their friends about you, and you make even more money.

There you have it. You just made a $35.00 profit on one item. You didn’t have to buy a whole bunch of the product and keep it in your warehouse, hoping you would sell it. You didn’t have to pay to have it shipped to you, and then pay to ship it to your customer. All you did was send an email to your Drop Ship Wholesale Supplier.

The downside to Drop Shipping is that each product costs you a slightly higher Wholesale price than you would pay if you were buying the products in bulk and shipping them yourself. Of course, that downside is partially offset by the fact that you don't have to spend money on inventory upfront.

Drop Shipping should be a part of your Product Sourcing, but not all of it.

What is Light Bulk Wholesaling?

You can use Drop Shipping to figure out which products sell well for you without spending a lot of money, then you can move into Light Bulk Wholesaling with those products you identify as good sellers. Or, you can start out in Light Bulk Wholesaling right away.

A "Bulk Wholesaler" is a Wholesale Supplier who will sell you several cases of products at a time at a Wholesale Price, and ship them to you. You store those products in your home, and pack and ship them yourself to your Internet customers who order them. You charge your customers your Retail Price, and the difference between Wholesale and Retail is your profit.

Buying in Bulk is how you get the best possible Wholesale Prices, so that you can compete in price-driven markets like eBay.

There's one problem with that, though. Most Wholesale Suppliers who sell in Bulk require Minimum Orders in the thousands of dollars. That's very hard for Home-based Internet Business Owners to afford.

Light Bulk Wholesalers are the solution to that problem!

"Light Bulk" Wholesaler is a term that we at Worldwide Brands created several years ago, to describe a real Wholesale Supplier that will:

  • Sell New, Factory-Warranted Products, at Wholesale Pricing, to you; the Home-based Internet Business Owner.

  • Sell to you in Affordable Quantities, with minimum orders under $500. That's why we call it "Light Bulk". Our wholesaler database contains thousands of Light Bulk Wholesale Suppliers that will sell you small ("light") quantities of products, while still giving you Bulk Wholesale Pricing! That's just one of the dozens of features that makes our database a better resource for your business than any other Wholesale Sourcing Tool on the Internet!

Light Bulk Wholesalers' products are priced lower than Drop Shipped products, because the Wholesale Supplier doesn't have to do all the work of packing and shipping individual orders for you. That means your profits go up.

Light Bulk Wholesaling should be a part of your Product Sourcing, but not all of it.

What is Large Volume Wholesaling?

  • You can use Drop Shipping to inexpensively identify Wholesale Products that sell well for you...

  • ... then use Light Bulk Wholesaling to ease into the cost of carrying those products in your own inventory without breaking your bank...

...then you can think about Large Volume Wholesaling for the products that always sell well in your Online Business. Large Volume Wholesale Buying means that you'll order larger quantities of products and spend more money on your inventory, but your cost per individual product goes down, and your profits go up even further than they did when you moved from Drop Shipping to Light Bulk.

That's the one universal rule in Wholesale. The more products you buy at one time, the less you pay per product.  Large volume Wholesale Suppliers are simply suppliers that have larger minimum orders than Drop Shippers or Light bulk Wholesalers.

Keep in mind that all Drop Shippers and Light Bulk Wholesalers are also Large Volume Wholesalers! They will sell larger volumes of products to you at reduced unit costs, just like Wholesalers to only sell in Large Volume.

Large Volume Wholesaling should be a part of your Product Sourcing, but not all of it.

What is Liquidation and Overstock?

Liquidation and Overstock Wholesaling are two different things, but they are both part of the same Product Sourcing Method, because they are both non-renewable sources.

Both Liquidation and Overstock Wholesaling are single-lot sources. That means that you buy a Liquidation Lot or Overstock Lot (a bunch of products) once, and you'll never be able to buy them again from the same place for the same price.

Drop Ship, Light Bulk and Large Volume Wholesaling are different, because you can constantly stock and restock your store or auctions with those products. The same products are always available there at the same prices,  which is why you need to use those methods.

Liquidation and Overstock Sourcing, on the other hand, is best used for buying products that you are going to sell as "Specials" in your EBiz. Liquidation and Overstock products are very cheap, and you can buy them at very low prices, then sell them at very low prices as "Special Sale Items" to get your customers into your store. Then, you show your customers your higher priced products, right next to the Specials. It's a time-tested method for getting your customers "in the door" so you can sell them the more expensive products that you make a higher profit on.

Liquidation Wholesale products are products that someone is trying to get rid of. They are oftentimes store returns, used products, or have some other characteristic that makes them difficult to sell at full retail price. They can be bought very cheaply, but must be sold at a low price too. When you make a Liquidation purchase, whether there are two cases of products in the "lot" or twenty, it will be a one-time deal.

Overstock Products are supposed to be new, in the box products that have never been used. They are usually last year's model, or products that didn't sell well in the retail stores, or products that a manufacturer made too many of. Again, they are one-time buys, and can be bought cheaply, but must be sold cheaply too, otherwise they would not be available as Overstock purchases.

Liquidation and Overstock Wholesaling should be a part of your Product Sourcing, but not all of it. It's best use is as a source of "Special Sale Items" for your EBiz.

What is Importing?

Like Drop Ship, Light Bulk and Large Volume Wholesaling, Import Wholesaling is a renewable Product Sourcing Method. You can import the same products over and over again at the same prices for your EBiz.

However, directly Importing your own Wholesale products from overseas factories is a very expensive and time-consuming process. If you do it yourself, you will spend tens of thousands of dollars and months of your time for each individual product shipment.

When you import from overseas, you are actually telling a factory to make you the products, then ship them to you from another country. Because they are actually making the products to order, you must spend a large amount of money and order a large number of each product at once, otherwise the overseas factory won't bother to work with you.

The best way to Source Import products is to get them from a Wholesale company that specializes in Importing. A company like that will have offices overseas and in the United States, and will control both ends of the operation that way. They pay to have the products made, they pay to have them shipped here, and then you buy them from the company's Import Warehouses in this country.

Real Import Wholesaling means buying case lots of products, inventorying them yourself, and shipping them to your customers when you make sales.

Worldwide Brands has special partnerships with Import Wholesalers, so that you can find and buy real Import Wholesale lots directly through the Product Search function of our wholesaler database.

Import Wholesale buying should be a part of your Product Sourcing, but not all of it.
